It's official...training sessions will now take place every Thursday at 5pm at Dalry Swim Centre! Dalry is run by Edinburgh Leisure so will cost £2.50 per swim with your Edinburgh Leisure card. See you there.
Swim Team Update For those who attended last Friday, it was great to meet you and you'll be glad to hear that thanks to your efforts we are now officially a sports club at Napier University. Unfortunately, as some of you may already know, the potential swimming pool we had in the midst has not come to fruition...it was too far away and times were too limited to offer any benefit to the team. In the meantime we'd like to invite you all to join us for unofficial swimming gatherings at both Dalry and Edinburgh Uni Swimming Pools... The biggest and most important will be this Thursday 18th October at Dalry Swimming Pool, meeting first at the main entrance (outside) to the Merchiston Campus at 4.30 then heading down to the pool for a 5pm start. Pool entry will cost £3.20, or £2.50 with the Edinburgh Leisure Card which is free after buying your Sports Union card (£10), which is needed to join the swimming club. After training we will be heading back up to the union for an introduction into the ways of the swimming social life. We have plenty to discuss and members can vote for this years committee. On the agenda will be the friendly match against Edinburgh University at St Leonard's Pool on Wednesday 24th October and Stirling Sprints on 10th November (after the swimming there will be a not-to-be-missed night out attended by all swimming Unis in Scotland, this requires fancy dress so ideas in a hat...). This chat will all last about ten minutes leaving plenty of time for drinking games and boat races...ever played yee-ha?
We have had some good news and have hopefully secured a training venue for the team. We want to tell you all about it this Friday (5th October) at 5.30pm at the Napier Students Union (12 Merchiston Place). As well as the information about training we also have a couple of competitions coming up in November, the Stirling Sprints and the BUSA Short Course Championships that we'd love to enter and let the rest of the UK know we've arrived! Stirling Sprints is fancy dress so get thinking up some ideas! Check out the Events Section for more information. On Friday you also need to become members of the NSA, and this involves a small cost of £20. You will receive your Napier Sports Union card - it gets you free into City Nightclub EVERY wednesday and discounted access to all Edinburgh Leisure facilities - and you will be official members of the Napier Swim Team. Remember to bring your Napier Matriculation Card too! Last of all, as we are a new club here at Napier we need to set-up a small committee, so anyone interested in being Secretary/Treasurer etc or if you have a coaching/teaching qualification, let us know on friday and we can get going as soon as possible! Times and venues for training and league meets are yet to be confirmed as the Swim Team and the NSA look for the best location, we hope to have something in place for Freshers' Week. The Universities participating in the Scottish Universities Swimming are: Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Glasgow Caledonian, Heriot-Watt, Robert Gordon, Stirling and Strathclyde...
Freshers' Fair 07: this year's event takes place at the Sighthill Dome on Thursday 27th September. The event is free and promises stalls, entertainment, music, food, drink, a bar, freebies, and much more. Doors open at 10am and close at 4pm. Come along and introduce yourself to the swim team...
